The Thug - الفتوة

Farid Shawqi stars as Haridi, a greenhorn struggling to earn an honest living, initially taking the place of a sick donkey to pull a heavily laden cart. As he learns the market ropes, he clashes with Abu Zeid, played by Zaki Rostom, who runs the fruit and vegetable business with an iron fist, backed by political allies. Haridi's quest to break Abu Zeid's monopoly is aided by a gutsy market girl, portrayed by Tahiya Carioca. Directed by realist Salah Abu Seif, the film is based on the true story of a monopolistic trader in Cairo's Rod Al-Farag market.
