The Sin - الحرام
$700.00Directed by the prolific filmmaker Henry Barakat from a novel by Yusuf Idris, this film is the tragic story of Aziza (played by Faten Hamama). Aziza is a seasonal farmworker who becomes pregnant after being raped. Her travails and those of her family in the aftermath of this horrendous crime are a tale of abject misery and somber tragedy. The film was nominated at the 1965 Cannes Film Festival for the Prix International award.
This poster was designed by Helmy El-Touny, one of Egypt's most prominent graphic artists of the 20th century, and it's as bold and unsettling as the film. A stark black background frames the image of Hamama and her stricken husband, with their village silhouetted in the background. The bold, red title adds another modernistic element to this striking poster. El-Touny designed a similar cover for the novel.
