Idol of the Crowds - فاتنة الجماهير

A Lebanese-Egyptian co-production from Lebanese director Mohamed Salman, this is the story of a singer (played by Lebanese singer-actress Sabah) who is targeted by repeated criticism from a respected reporter (actor Youssef Shaaban). Afraid that her popularity is waning beneath his withering articles, she contrives a scheme to use her feminine wiles to win him over to her side. Both get more than they bargained for in the end.

Sabah is ravishing in this gorgeous poster from the heyday of the Egyptian musical film genre, triumphant in a red dress and gloves, and receiving accolades from a carnival-like crowd of admirers. As the suggestions of balloons and confetti fall around her, the joy and liveliness of the film's performances shows through.
