The Land - الأرض

$995.00

The villagers of a small Nile Delta community face a dire threat when authorities reduce their water ration, jeopardizing their livelihood. As they organize to protest, internal divisions and selfishness among their leaders surface. Mohamed Abu Sweilem, played by Mahmoud El-Meligy, emerges as the honorable leader of the peasants in their struggle. Directed by Youssef Chahine and based on Abdelrahman El-Sharqawy’s novel, the film is a powerful homage to the deep connection Egyptian peasants have with their land, while also addressing themes of greed and exploitation.

The poster, a second edition based on the one designed by Gamal Kamel, features a bold design with a black background and a film reel on the left. The reel displays color blocks and a portrait of a peasant girl in earthy tones. The film’s title is creatively depicted as layers of earth, with the top surface in green, yellow, and blue resembling farmland, and lower layers in shades of brown symbolizing soil. This design effectively captures the film’s homage to the land and its profound emotional and physical significance to the villagers.
