Om Hashem’s Lamp - قنديل أم هاشم
$495.00This adaptation of a popular novel tells the story of an ophthalmologist from Cairo, who notices a curious increase in the number of his patients. When he investigates the cause, he determines that the lamp oil used in a neighborhood mosque may be the culprit, however the locals consider his warning an attack on their beliefs. The film contains beautiful scenes of daily life in the Sayyida Zeinab neighborhood and explores the clash of cultures between modernity and traditional Egyptian beliefs.
This is a colorful and exquisitely designed poster from the era, by the talented artist Khalil. Lantern-styled boxes in bright primary colors contain the main characters and depict their relationships. The blue background creates a delightful contrast, as does the white handwritten title. The look is very appealing and modern, and the combination of colors and style make this a wonderful décor piece or memorabilia object.
