I Am Free - أنا حرة
$845.00This classic film celebrates women's empowerment during the Nasser Era. Lubna Abdelaziz is Amina, a woman whose journey of self-discovery and liberation is challenged by expectations of tradition. She rebels against her family in pursuit of her dignity and a higher education, while refusing to marry or participate in society as young women are expected. Along her journey, she gradually comes to realize that modernity is still her goal, but there are many worthwhile traditions to respect. This was an early film that deeply explored the meaning and limitations of freedom for women in an evolving Egyptian society.
This poster provides a unique depiction for the era of a female character. Amina appears in a powerful pose occupying almost two-thirds of the poster's height, not small and buoyant as is typical. The rich orange background hints at the energy and tumult of her life, while the Naskh-based title calligraphy emphasizes the poster’s modern look.
