The Mountain - الجبل
$530.00Based on a famous novel by Fathy Ghanem, this film tells the story of a community that lives in caves and excavates artifacts from nearby Egyptian ruins. Hussein, a man from the same community who has become an architect, urges the people to move into a village he has designed, in order to live a better life. He is loved by Masaadah, who is tormented by her worries for him and the impoverished community.
This film is one of the early examples the public-sector cinema in the 1960s, which aimed to create a cinema capable of advancing important social issues. The poster is rendered in a dramatic gray color, with attractive orange highlights. The title of the film is shaped and textured to resemble its “mountain” namesake, and the principal characters look on in expressions of worry. This is an iconic example of a film poster at a time when the industry was undergoing dramatic change.
