The Singer - المغنواتي
$600.00 $775.00Sayed Issa directed this musical that endures as an almost-forgotten film from the waning years of the Egyptian musical genre. The story is set in the 1940s, during the battles for Egypt's liberation from British rule. Ali El-Haggar plays a singer who loves the daughter of a village leader. Her family disapproves and another woman (Soheir El-Morshedi) creates a love triangle by trying to win his heart.
This is a very rare poster by artists Khalil and Anis, and demonstrates an advanced talent for visual balance and artistry. Ali El-Haggar is dressed in a suit and traditional tarboosh cap, as he plays the oud. Soheir El-Morshedi, the troupe’s dancer, is elegant and exotic in a traditional green dance costume. The other performers in the troupe are de-emphasized, using a black & white cross-hatching illustration technique. The overall look is complex, densely arranged and very attractive, with a palette of gold, green and red colors that makes this poster stand out as a décor object.
